The system pairs a Sony UTX-B2 body-pack transmitter with a Sony URX-P2 portable diversity tuner, allowing a lavalier microphone or compatible source to be sent wirelessly to a camera, mixer or recorder. This makes it useful for dialogue, presenter audio, interviews, walk-and-talk setups and general location sound where a wired microphone would be impractical.
The UTX-B2 body-pack transmitter uses a crystal-controlled PLL synthesizer system and offers selectable RF output power on supported models. Sony’s operating instructions list 30mW / 5mW selectable output for USA, Europe and Australia models, with a 3.5mm mini-jack microphone input and adjustable attenuation from 0–21dB in 3dB steps.
The URX-P2 portable receiver uses space diversity reception and is designed for compact camera or field use. It provides a 3.5mm audio output, headphone monitoring, channel/frequency display, RF/audio level indication and battery-powered operation from two AA batteries.
For film production use, this kit is best suited to straightforward wireless lavalier recording, especially interviews, documentary work and small crew shoots. Before hire or use, the operating frequency range of the actual unit should be checked and matched against current UK PMSE licensing requirements.
