RODE Blimp v2
The RODE Blimp is a professional windshield and shock mount system for shotgun microphones, featuring Rycote Lyre suspension, wind protection, internal XLR cabling and a lightweight handle for boom, handheld and location sound recording.
The RODE Blimp is a complete windshield and shock mount system designed for shotgun microphones used in film, documentary, broadcast, interview and location sound recording.
Built to reduce both wind noise and handling noise, the Blimp combines an outer windshield basket with an internal Rycote Lyre suspension system. This helps isolate the microphone from vibration and movement when used on a boom pole, handheld grip or static production setup.
The current version is designed to accept RODE shotgun microphones as well as compatible third-party shotgun microphones up to 325mm in length, with the official datasheet specifying compatibility for microphones between 19mm and 22mm in diameter. This makes it suitable for commonly used shotgun microphones in film and video production.
Inside the handle is a Mogami cable system with Neutrik and Switchcraft XLR connectors, helping reduce cable movement and vibration transfer to the microphone. The Blimp also mounts to a standard boom pole via a 3/8-inch thread at the base of the handle.
For exterior work, the included Dead Wombat windshield provides additional wind protection for more exposed conditions. The Blimp is a practical hire item for productions recording dialogue, atmospheres, interviews and location sound where a bare microphone or simple foam windshield would not provide enough isolation.
