The Sennheiser MKE 600 is a compact shotgun condenser microphone built for filmmakers, videographers, broadcasters and location sound users who need focused directional pickup in a practical camera- or boom-mount format. It is designed to capture sound clearly from the front while rejecting unwanted noise from the sides and rear, making it well suited to interviews, documentary work, on-camera recording and general production audio.
Its super-cardioid/lobar pickup pattern gives the microphone strong forward directivity, helping isolate speech and other intended sources in busy or uncontrolled environments. A switchable low-cut filter is also built in to reduce wind and handling noise, making it more adaptable for exterior and run-and-gun shooting.
The MKE 600 can be powered either by standard 48V phantom power via XLR or by a single AA battery, which is especially useful when working with cameras or devices that do not supply phantom power. Sennheiser quotes an approximate battery operating time of 150 hours, with a low-battery indicator providing warning before the battery is fully depleted.
With a maximum sound pressure level of 132 dB SPL when phantom powered, low self-noise and a rugged all-metal housing, the MKE 600 is designed to perform reliably in demanding production environments. Sennheiser supplies it with a shock mount, foam windshield, adapter cable and pouch, making it a practical ready-to-use option for camera-top or lightweight boom setups.
