The SmallRig RA-L65 Lantern Softbox is a 65cm spherical softbox designed for compatible Bowens-mount LED fixtures.
Unlike a directional softbox, a lantern spreads light broadly around the fixture, making it useful for soft room ambience, overhead light, interview fill, table scenes, practical-style lighting and fast location setups. It is especially useful where a wider, softer spread is needed rather than a tightly controlled beam.
The RA-L65 uses soft-light fabric with a high-reflective inner coating to create a broad spherical light effect, while helping maintain the colour quality of the attached light source. SmallRig lists it with a 65cm diameter, 56cm depth and 1348g weight, making it a compact, lightweight modifier for smaller COB-style fixtures.
The included black fabric skirt helps control spill and shape the lantern output, making the softbox more flexible than a bare 360° lantern. It can be used to reduce light in selected directions, protect camera side spill, or keep light off backgrounds and walls where needed.
The softbox uses a Bowens mount, making it compatible with SmallRig RC 120D / RC 120B / RC 220D / RC 220B and other suitable Bowens-mount lights. As with all front-mounted modifiers, fixture compatibility, balance, heat, stand strength and sandbagging should be checked before use.
