As a grip and light-control tool, it is used to shape existing light rather than produce light itself. The included surfaces allow crews to bounce, soften, warm, subtract or redirect light depending on the needs of the scene. Godox lists the RFT-05 surface options as gold, silver, black, white and translucent.
The white surface is useful for soft natural fill, while the silver surface gives a brighter, more contrasty reflection. The gold surface can add warmth, the black surface can be used for negative fill or blocking unwanted reflections, and the translucent centre can be used as diffusion between a light source and subject.
At 150 x 200cm, this reflector is well suited to larger interview setups, seated subjects, product work, outdoor fill, window-light control and small crew productions where a larger bounce or diffusion surface is needed.
