Tiffen Black Pro Mist 4×4 Filter Kit

This hire kit contains four Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 4×4 glass diffusion filters in 1/4, 1/2, 1 and 2 strengths, supplied as a practical set for cinematography, commercial, music video, narrative and digital camera work.

The Black Pro-Mist range is designed to reduce highlights and lower contrast while creating a softer quality of light. It is often used to take the edge off modern digital cameras, introduce controlled halation around practicals and highlights, and create a gentler, more atmospheric image without the look of a heavy soft-focus filter.

The four included strengths allow productions to choose the level of diffusion to suit the scene, lens, lighting style and camera format. The 1/4 strength gives a more subtle effect, while the 1/2, 1 and 2 strengths progressively increase the visible diffusion, highlight bloom and contrast reduction. Tiffen’s own product page notes that the effect becomes more apparent from 1/4 upwards, with heavier densities producing more aggressive highlight spill from practical light sources.

As 4×4 filters, these are intended for use with compatible matte boxes and 4×4 filter trays, making them suitable for cinema-style camera builds rather than screw-in lens setups.
